Story
from the author
“I have wanted, for a while now, to create a short 3D animation from scratch. This Project allowed me to do so! “
A client found me on Fiverr and asked me to do a short Cartoon Style movie, with which she can propose to her partner.❤️ ”
Storyboard
My first steps were to get as much reference as I can for the Environment, Characters and Animation.
We had only a Storyline and we had to develop it into a Storyboard. I used Google Word Document to brainstorm some ideas and get more visual information for the Environment and Camera angles. Originally we had a Cat Character in the Storyline, too but we agreed, with the client, that our timeline would not allow it, so sadly we had to exclude it from the Story.
The client wanted an office room, she did not have particular request for the 3D models, so I started creating basic 3D Models for the room along with the Preliminary Storyboard.
I built the Environment and then I created our official Storyboard. I used Google Slides to create it where I attached reference animation videos along with Playblast Videos from Maya, for possible Camera angles for each Scene. I amended some of the camera angles, at the end.
3D Modelling Environment
Then I started developing the Environment.
I already had some ready 3D Models in my database and the Client was happy with them.
The Small Bookcase is a close replica of their bookcase.
The Books - I already had a few different 3D Models of books in my database. I used the big bookcase from my database, too. I just changed the textures for it. The original bookcase and books desk can be viewed in the link below:
3D Model Bookcase and Desk - Store
The Books Textures - the client sent me a picture of their bookcase and I used my Photos MacBook application, to cut a texture sample for each single book. Then I just applied Planner Face UV for each book.
The Carpet I have applied the texture of their carpet. I modelled the carpet in ZBrush with some alpha brushes and then exported high and low poly models to bake the maps in Substance Painter. To export the texture from the sample picture sent from the client I just cut the picture in my Photos MacBook application. The texture was not high resolution but it did the trick to make the carpet looking similar to theirs.
Tree and Flowers - I created the tree outside the window and all the flowers in the room with Maya Paint Effect.
Having so many 3D Models in my database really speed up the process of creating the whole Environment.
Basket with fruits - I created them in Zbrush and Textured them in Maya. For the basket I just used Noise for the Normal Map. The fruits are just with Simple Arnold Shader, I reduced the Roughness a bit so it does not look that shiny.
The boxes - I created them in Maya and Textured in Substance Painter
Tweetie cup - I already had a model for it so I used it.
Tweetie cup 3D Model in my Database can be viewed in the link below:

Bugs Bunny Slippers - I already had a 3D Model for the Slippers. The Model can be viewed in the link below:

Pictures on the walls, Dream Bubbles in the frame - I did each one of the pictures separately after i rigged both Characters. I posed them and rendered each picture, then I just applied it to the UV face texture to the relevant picture frame/dream bubble.
Clock on the wall - I already had a ready 3D Model for the clock. It can be viewed in the link below:
3D Model Wall Clock - Store
Little Round Table - I have created the 3D Model in Maya and ZBrush. I textured it in Substance Painter.
The ring - I modelled the ring box in Maya and textured it in Substance Painter. The ring I created with Zbrush and then textured it in Maya with Arnold’s presets for gold and diamond.
Credits
For the credits I used a model of a rigged book which I already had in my database. The book models can be viewed in the links below:

Planning the project
We had only a Storyline and we had to develop it into a Storyboard. Then I did a breakdown of the Scenes. As a whole we had 8 Scenes for the movie and 6 Scenes for the Credits.
